The Art Academy Workshops are engaging and fun learning experiences in a wide variety of media designed to enrich one's personal vision for ages 6 through adult. All the workshops, except Mural at the Mall, are held in the Southeast Missouri State University Art Studios under the guidance of experienced and highly qualified master art instructors and art professors. Each instructor will also have a Southeast Art Education student assistant. All classes are limited to 15 students. Student work will be on exhibit at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri through the month of August. Opening Reception will be held August 5, 2016 from 5-9 p.m. Students may pick up their artwork following the exhibit between Sept. 1-16 2016.

Students will create drawings using nature as their guide and explore animals, plants, and natural objects using charcoal, pencil, ink and pastels.

Be inspired by art history and create animals in clay paint, prints, and pastels that capture your personality.

Children's Ceramics
Students will make animals, masks and simple pottery with terra cotta and low fire glazes.

Pirates Princesses and More!
Students will create their own imaginative worlds and characters while exploring mulitple materials in clay, painting, printmaking and aper mache.

Painting an More!

Drawing
Students will focus on idea development through creative problem-solving involving a variety of media and subject matter.

Jammin' with Gelli Prints
Students will use teh fun, new "gelatin" plate to make one-of-a-kind monoprints with found objects ready-made stampes and stencils and hand-created stencils and textures.

Young Potters
Students will operate as potter's wheel to make bowls and cups, and explore hand building with clay.

That's Fantastic!
Students will explore the world of fantasy and create drawings, sculptures, and paintings from their unique imaginations.

Painting and Mixed Media
Students will learn to paint using acrylic, ink, watercolor, and tempera while experimenting with multilayered materials and painting techniques inspired by art history.

Creative Computers
Students will learn to harness the power of Adob Photoshop by experimenting with photo editing and collage designing a logo, exploring, digital painting, and creating a frame by frame animation.

Large Scale Drawing
Students will cover basic drawing skills such as gesture drawing, positive/negative shaps and space, composition, value tones, line sensitivity and perceptual accuracy.

Self-Portrait Oil Painting
Students will mix and manipulate specific colors to create an alla prime self portrait painting. Students should bring a color photo of themselves with a detailed facial image that is at least 4" square.

Street Art and the Creative Spirit
Students will focus on the tradition of modern street art, examine color and composition, develop personal symbolism and text elements, and investigate the stenciling process.

Creative Puppet Creations
Create puppets of imaginative creatures based on folklore in a wide variety of sculptural materials.

Hand Cut Stencil Screenprinting
Experience this green, portable, and fast method of making imagery: screenprinting with hand-cut paper stencils. Explore the use of shape and transparent layering to create colorful imagery.

iPad Imagery
Use a tablet to create breathtaking digital photos and videos! Explore the variety of applications and camera settings while learning about best app practices. While it is preferred participants bring their own iPad, a limited number of devices are available for use.

Split Woven Basketry
Participants will weave a flat splint basket with handles and added color, dye their baskets with tea, and finish their baskets by singeing.
