Art Academy 2015: Registration Form

The Art Academy Workshops are engaging and fun learning experiences in a wide variety of media designed to enrich one's personal vision for ages 6 through adult. All the workshops are held in the Southeast Missouri State University Art Studios under the guidance of experienced and highly qualified master art instructors and art professors. Each instructor will also have a Southeast Art Education student assistant. All classes are limited to 15 students. Student work will be on exhibit at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri through the month of August. Opening Reception will be held August 7, 2015 from 5-9 p.m.

Art Workshops for Ages 6-9 ($110 per student, per class)
Wonderful World of Color
Students will discover the wonderful world of color while painting from their imagination.
Instructed by: Tina Sample.

Children's Ceramics
In this beginning ceramics class, students will make animals, masks and simple pottery with terra cotta and low fire glazes.

Fun Found Object Art
Students will use fantastic, found objects to create awesome art and help save the environment.
Instructed by: Susan Lane.
Dates: July 6-10 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon

Dream and Draw
Students will explore media such as colored pencil, pastels, charcoal and ink as they use their creativity and imagination to make their unique works of art.

Adventures in Art
Students will explore and create sculptures, paintings, prints and drawings and more.
Instructed by: Nikki Heurring.

Art Workshops for Ages 10-15 ($110 per student, per class)
Young Potters
Students will operate as potter's wheel to make bowls and cups, and explore hand building with clay.
Instructed by: Benjie Heu.
Dates: June 15-19 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Creative Creatures
Students will be inspired by folklore to create their own 3D creatures.
Instructed by: Michael Baird.
Dates: June 22-26 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Dream and Draw
Students will focus on idea development through creative problem-solving involving a variety of media and subject matter.
Instructed by: Brenda Seyer.
Dates: July 13-17 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Jammin' with Gelli Prints
Students will learn how to use the fun, new "gelatin" plate to make one-of-a-kind monoprints with found objects, ready-made stamps and stencils and hand-created stencils and textures.

Art Workshops for Ages 16 to Adult ($70 per student, per class)

Large Scale Drawing
Students will cover basic drawing skills such as gesture drawing, positive/negative shaps and space, composition, value tones, line sensitivity and perceptual accuracy.
Instructed by: Kathy Smith.
No drawing experience required. Dates: June 9-10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Raku Pottery
Students will create Raku friendly forms of pottery, wheel and hand build with clay.

Dates: June 15 & 22 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Folklore Creatures
Create imaginative creature puppets based on folklore in a wide variety of sculptural media.
Instructed by master folklore creator: Michael Baird.
Dates: June 23-24 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Portable Paintings
Students will focus on the tradition of modern graffiti and street art. The workshop will culminate in a "portable painting" ready for public display.

Polyester Plate Lithography
Students will learn about this incredibly versatile, affordable, non-toxic, press or press-free process useful for artists working in a variety of media or mixed media.
Instructed by: Hannah Sanders.
Dates: July 13-14 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Needle Felting
Students will explore the Art of Needle Felting with an introduction to flat and three-dimensional needle felting. Great for high school students and teachers to share in the classroom.

Refunds may be given minus a 10% cancellation processing fee up to one week prior to the start of the workshop. If a workshop is cancelled, registrants will be notified and given the option of transferring to another workshop or receiving a full refund.
