BLOOD DRIVE DATES SET AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY

Area blood supplies are running low, but the American Red Cross and Southeast Missouri State University are teaming up to help save lives. A blood drive has been scheduled on Nov. 30, Dec. 1, and Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Robert A. Dempster Hall.

Although all blood types are needed, type O is particularly needed. Type O is the most common blood type and is used in 52 percent of all surgeries. Since only 46 percent of the population has type O blood, type O donors are asked to give blood more frequently. If you don't know your blood type, you can find out by donating blood. After the drive, Red Cross will send you a card with your blood type, the number of times you have given blood in the past and will expedite future blood donations.

For more information about the Southeast Missouri State University blood drive or other drives in your area, call American Red Cross at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

Two flamenco-inspired solos by the Spaniard Francisco Tarrega will be played as well.

The Guitar Ensemble of Southeast Missouri State University is dedicated to the performance of music written or arranged for groups of guitars or for guitar with other instruments. It is directed by Jeffrey Noonan, an instructor of guitar and musicology in the Department of Music.

SOUTHEAST MUSIC ACADEMY STUDENTS SELECTED AS RUNNERS-UP

Three students of the Southeast Missouri Music Academy at Southeast Missouri State University were selected as first runners-up at the Music Teachers National Association State Composition Competition. John Kipper, Steffan Troxel and Heather Wissore are students of Sherrie Troxel, an instructor of music theory and composition at the Music Academy at Southeast.

All three students earned top honors in a category or placed in the Music Academy's competition before competing at the state level. John Kipper, a sixth grade student at Franklin Elementary School, was chosen as first runner-up in the elementary division. He is the son of Paul and Bonnie Kipper.

Steffan Troxel, a seventh grade student at Jackson Middle School, was chosen as first runner-up in the junior high division. Troxel also competed in the piano solo competition and received a 'one' rating. He is a piano student of Becky Fulgham, director of the Southeast Missouri Music Academy at Southeast. He is the son of Matt and Sherri Troxel.

Heather Wissore, a senior at Meadow Heights High School, was chosen as first runner-up in the high school division. She is the daughter of Bob and Melanie Wissore.
