Southeast Greek women posted a cumulative GPA of 3.10, and Southeast Greek men earned a cumulative 2.77 GPA. The OVC consisted of eight universities during the fall 2002 semester, including Murray State University and Eastern Illinois University.

"One of the founding principles and most important aspects of Greek Life is scholarship," said Gretchen Weber, Southeast assistant director for student involvement. "The Southeast Missouri State Greek system, consisting of 18 nationally affiliated fraternities and sororities, continually strives to achieve academic success."

With the recent addition of Samford University and Jacksonville State University to the OVC in spring 2003, Southeast Greek students continued to rank near the top of academic achievement. The sororities at Samford posted a cumulative GPA of 3.21, just ahead of Southeast's women with a 3.15. The fraternity men at Southeast finished well above the rest of the longtime OVC schools with a 2.8 GPA, but newcomer Samford distanced itself with a 3.11 GPA.

Southeast Greek students have placed consistently first in OVC academic achievement since all conference awards began in spring 1999. The only exceptions were in fall 2001 when Southeast's fraternity men held the top honors alongside the women of Murray State, and in spring 2001 when Southeast's sorority women shared the top honors with the men of the University of Tennessee-Martin.
