FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REGENTS EXTEND NITZSCHKE'S CONTRACT AS FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE CONSULTANT

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 20, 2003 -Dr. Dale Nitzschke's contract as Southeast Missouri State University's federal legislative consultant has been renewed for a third year, the Southeast Board of Regents announced today.

The decision to tender a one-year renewal of the contract was made during an April 16 closed session meeting of the Board, and the signed contract was accepted by the Board at its meeting on Friday, May 16.

University officials say Nitzschke has filled a critical role in obtaining millions of dollars in federal funding for the University, which has proven to be particularly significant during recent years of extremely low state funding.

"We are certain that these federal funds would not have been made available to the University without the relationships he has developed with Senators (Christopher "Kit") Bond and (Jim) Talent, Congresswoman (Jo Ann) Emerson and members of their staffs," said Kenneth W. Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University.

"I am delighted Dr. Nitzschke is going to continue with us for another year," said Donald L. Dickerson, president of the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents. "He has done a tremendous job in helping us get some much needed funding as the University continues to grow.

"Dale has gained a wealth of knowledge about federal help for higher education," Dickerson added. "This comes from his many years of experience in higher education, which includes presidencies at Marshall University, the University of New Hampshire and, most recently, Southeast Missouri State University. He knows how to identify federal programs that are a good fit for the mission of Southeast Missouri State University, and he understands how programs and projects need to be structured and administered to a successful conclusion. We are lucky to have him."

The new, one-year contract begins July 1 and ends June 30, 2004, and is under the same terms as last year's agreement.

Nitzschke was president of Southeast Missouri State University from 1996-1999. After that, he served two years as University chancellor with responsibility for fund-raising. He has served the past two years as federal legislative consultant.
