SUMMER FUN FOR YOUTHS PLANNED AT SOUTHEAST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY
Horizons Program, Music Camps, Athletic Camps, Camp Capaha await area youths

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 25, 2003 - - The summer is fast approaching, which means it's time to begin planning to keep your children active during the school vacation.

Southeast Missouri State University offers a variety of summer athletic camps, day camps, music camps and enrichment programs for children of all ages.

From volleyball, basketball and football to soccer and gymnastics, Southeast’s athletic camps keep students active and allow them to have fun while playing their favorite sports. Southeast's summer athletic camps fill up early, so visit "Camps" at http://gosoutheast.com or call the Department of Athletics at (573) 651-2113 to enroll now.

In addition to athletic camps, Southeast also offers the exciting Horizons program. This program is for children between the ages of 9 and 14. Horizons offers week-long enrichment programs that are not only educational, but also fun for all children. Horizons presents children with exciting challenges, ideas and skills not covered in the traditional classroom.

Programs this year will be offered in the areas of watercolors, archaeology, geometry, space, health, architectural design and modeling, 3D modeling and animation, theatre, wheel-thrown pottery, short story writing, fossils, native Americans, Spanish and Major League Baseball. Students also may enroll in programs to make their own music video, build their own Superbowl team, learn how to run their own business and make things with chemistry. Other classes will focus on insects, fossils, zoology, rock climbing and rappelling, programming simple computer games, and criminal justice.

Horizons offers a variety of different programs for all children to enjoy. Four sessions are available during the summer: June 16-20, June 23-27, July 7-11, and July 14-18.

For youths interested in music, Southeast offers its 46th Annual Summer Music Camps. A camp for elementary and junior high school bands and high school jazz is planned for July 8-12. A second camp for junior and senior high school bands, and junior and senior high school strings is planned for July 15-19. A Suzuki String Camp is scheduled for June 23-27, and a Marching Auxiliaries Camp will be held on campus June 18-20. For more information on Summer Music Camps at Southeast, call (573) 651-2335.

In addition to Summer Music Camps, Southeast’s Student Recreation Center also is sponsoring Camp Capaha, a summer day camp for boys and girls ages 6 to 12. Four sessions are available: June 16-20, June 23-27, July 7-11 and July 14-18.

Camp Capaha will offer a variety of activities, including the climbing wall, soccer, basketball, volleyball, kickball, floor hockey, wiffleball, tennis, racquetball, badminton, crafts, water games and swimming at Capaha Pool. To register, call (573) 651-2105.
