Today's total combined undergraduate and graduate student headcount is up 22 from this time last year and up from 8,301 after the first full day of spring semester classes which began Jan. 21 at Southeast.

Dr. Dennis Holt, vice president for administration and enrollment management, said, "We are extremely pleased with today's numbers. It is wonderful for Southeast to continue to experience steady spring semester enrollment growth."

Total combined undergraduate and graduate student headcount for the spring semester has been growing steadily since 1995, when total spring enrollment was 7,469. Total combined undergraduate and graduate student credit hours also have been on the rise. In 1995, that figure was just 87,050. Today's report shows total combined undergraduate and graduate student credit hours at 100,788. That figure is up 3.1 percent from this time last year.

According to today's report, total undergraduate student headcount stands at 7,799, up 2.7 percent from spring 2002. Spring undergraduate student headcount also has been steadily on the rise since 1995 when that figure was just 6,606.

Today's final census report shows: beginning freshman headcount at 126, up 10 from this time last year. Total other freshman headcount is 1,653, down 6.1 percent from spring 2002. Sophomore headcount is 1,630, up 8.7 percent from this time last year. Junior headcount stands at 1,573, up 2 from spring 2002. Senior headcount is 2,100, up 7.5 percent from this time last year.

Total undergraduate student credit hours are currently 94,920, up four percent from spring of last year.

Total graduate student headcount is 1,194, down 13.4 percent from this time a year ago. The number of degree seeking graduate students stands at 733, down 7.7 percent from spring 2002. The number of non-degree seeking graduate students is 351, down 23.7 percent from this time last year. Total headcount for graduate students in the specialist program stands at 99, down 12.4 percent from spring 2002. Today's report shows doctoral student headcount at 11, exactly the same as last year's 11.

Dr. Fred Janzow, dean of the School of Graduate and University Studies, said University officials are "taking a look at the factors that might be involved in the decrease in graduate student enrollment." That analysis is not yet complete, he said.
