DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC PRESENTS GUITAR ENSEMBLE CONCERT NOV. 18

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 8, 2002 -- On Monday, November 18, 2002, The Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University will present the Southeast Guitar Ensemble in concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Baptist Student Center Chapel on the campus.

The concert will feature performances by music students majoring in classical guitar at the University. The full Guitar Ensemble will open the program with a set of Renaissance dances by Michael Praetorius. Other ensemble works include Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto for Two Mandolins" and a set of Spanish dances and songs by Federico Moreno Torroba. Solo guitarists will offer works ranging from the Baroque to contemporary South America. These will include a Fugue by J.S. Bach, a lullaby by Leo Brouwer, a large Romantic "Reverie" by Giulio Regondi, and two concert preludes by Heitor Villa Lobos. The concert will conclude with Leo Brouwer's "Cuban Landscape with Rumba," a demanding contemporary work for prepared guitars performed by the full ensemble.

The Southeast Guitar Ensemble is directed by Jeffrey Noonan, who will conduct several of the ensemble works. The concert is free and open to the public.
