FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE REGENTS APPROVE NAMES OF RESTRUCTURED DEPARTMENTS CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 18, 2002 - The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents today approved new names for several academic departments. The name changes are part of a restructuring move as the University streamlines its administrative structures in order to reduce expenses. The new department names will take effect at the start of the spring semester in January. Dr. Jane Stephens, University provost, said the new department structure will remain in place for two years, when it will be reviewed. Following today's action, 14 academic departments have been restructured into nine. The new department names are as follows: Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems Department of Economics and Finance Department of Management and Marketing Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation Department of Foreign Languages and Anthropology Department of Political Science, Philosophy and Religion Department of Geosciences Department of Physics and Engineering Physics While the Department of Geosciences and the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics will maintain their departmental integrity, the two will share administrative and clerical functions with a chairperson and a secretary serving both departments.
