REGENTS ANNOUNCE DEAN, CHAIRPERSON APPOINTMENTS

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 18, 2002 - The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents today announced several dean and chairperson appointments after the Board approved a series of academic restructuring and consolidation moves of colleges and departments.

The announcements were made following a closed session meeting of the Board of Regents. All of the appointments are effective Jan. 1.

Dr. Fred Janzow, current dean of the School of University Studies, has been named dean of the consolidated School of Graduate and University Studies. In addition to his duties as dean, Janzow also has been appointed Interim Vice Provost, in which he will be responsible for some of the duties of the current vice provost, including the management of summer school, Southeast Online and continuing education. Dr. Phil Parette, current dean of the School of Graduate Studies, will return to his teaching duties in the College of Education.

In a related move, the Board appointed Dr. Dennis Holt, current vice provost at Southeast, to the position of vice president for administration and enrollment management. Holt will assume his new duties after Dr. Pauline Fox, current vice president for administration and enrollment management, retires in December. In addition, Holt will continue to serve as executive director of the Southeast Missouri Educational Consortium.

Dr. Randy Shaw, dean of the School of Polytechnic Studies, has been named, in addition to his current title, Interim Dean of Extended Learning with responsibility for overseeing extending learning and the four regional higher education centers in Kennett, Malden, Sikeston and Perryville, Mo.

The Board also approved the following chairperson appointments effective with the spring 2003 semester:

Donald L. Harrison College of Business

  • Dr. Carolyn Rainey, chair of the Department of Accounting and Management Information Systems. Rainey has been serving as associate professor of administrative services.
  • Dr. Rebecca Summary, chair of the Department of Economics and Finance. Summary has been serving as the chair of the Department of Economics.
  • Dr. Jack Sterrett, chair of the Department of Management and Marketing. Sterrett has been serving as the chair of the Department of Marketing.

College of Health and Human Services

  • Dr. John Wade, chair of the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology. Wade has been serving as the chair of the Department of Criminal Justice.
  • Dr. Mark Langenfeld, chair of the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation. Langenfeld has been serving as the chair of the Department of Health and Leisure.

College of Liberal Arts

  • Dr. Dieter Jedan, chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Anthropology. Jedan has been serving as the chair of the Department of Foreign Languages.
  • Dr. Hamner Hill, chair of the Department of Political Science, Philosophy, and Religion. Hill has been serving as chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion.

College of Science and Mathematics

  • Dr. David Probst, chair of the Department of Geosciences and the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics. These two departments will retain their academic integrity, but Probst will provide administrative leadership for both. Probst has been serving as chair of the Department of Physics.
