FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTHEAST PLANS HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES FOR OCT. 17-19

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 20, 2002 - Southeast will celebrate Homecoming 2002 Oct. 17-19 with the theme "Southeast: The Bridge to Success."

This year's events feature numerous activities for students, alumni, friends of the University and the community. Student events will center around the theme "Experience Southeast."

"This year's Homecoming theme is a signal to alumni to return to campus and remember the days they spent here," said Jane Stacy, director of alumni services and development. "We have had a great response from the reunion classes of l942 and l952 already."

The Merit Award/Copper Dome Social and Dinner will be held on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Show Me Center. The event will honor the 2002 Merit Award recipients and Copper Dome Society members.

Southeast's Homecoming parade will kick off the day's festivities at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Homecoming parade, one of the largest in the region, will begin at Capaha Park and run east on Broadway from West End Blvd. to Main Street. The parade then runs south on Main.

Donald C. Bedell, a Sikeston, Mo., businessman who currently serves as chairman of the board of Health Facilities Management Corporation, will serve as the parade marshal. Bedell's company operates nursing homes in Missouri, Arizona and Arkansas. A 1,000-plus-seat performance hall on the proposed River Campus will be named in Bedell's honor after he made a seven-figure gift last fall to the Southeast Missouri University Foundation to support this effort. His son, Donald B. "Brad" Bedell, serves as a member of the University's Board of Regents.

Southeast alumni and friends are invited to attend the All Alumni Luncheon preceding the football game on Saturday. The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Show Me Center and will honor the Distinguished Service Award recipients and the classes of 1942, 1952 and 1977 and 1992. The event will feature the music of the Jerry Ford Band.

The weekend will culminate with Southeast battling Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Southeast students, alumni, friends and the community are invited to attend and cheer on the Southeast Indians. Halftime festivities will include the crowning of the Southeast Man and Woman of the Year.

In addition to these events, various reunions and other activities will take place throughout the weekend. For more information on these events or for a complete list of homecoming activities, contact the Alumni Office at (573) 651-2259 of go to http://www4.semo.edu/alumni/.
