CAMPUS TO REMEMBER TRAGEDIES OF SEPT. 11 WITH MEMORIAL PROGRAM

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 30, 2002 - Southeast Missouri State University will reflect on the terrorist tragedies of Sept. 11, 2001, with a special memorial program at noon Sept. 11 in Academic Auditorium.

Titled "September 11: We Remember," the program will feature a color guard and video and slide show with images recalling last year's terrorist events at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and in Pennsylvania. Ross McFerron, Student Government president, will present a welcome.

Student musicians will perform the "National Anthem" after which, McFerron will present a reading titled "The Healing Power of Telling our Stories." Students, faculty and staff then will assume the voices of real people who served at Ground Zero and who survived the terrorist attacks. Roles to be portrayed include Joseph Bradley, a crane operator; Jimmy Abbananto and Jerry Krusch, both of the New York Police Department; Manu, a trader on the 84th floor of one of the towers who survived the tragedy; and Katherine Avery, director of volunteers.

The program will conclude with the singing of "America the Beautiful" and the retreating of the color guard.
