FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTHEAST REGENT TO RECEIVE YOUNG ALUMNI MERIT AWARD FROM OLE MISS

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 30, 2002 -- Donald "Brad" Bedell of Sikeston, Mo., has been named the recipient of the Young Alumni Merit Award at the University of Mississippi-Oxford.

The award will be presented at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 at an Alumni Awards Ceremony in the School of Education Auditorium. The ceremony is a part of Homecoming festivities at Ole Miss.

"I am truly honored to receive this award from an institution I love and respect. Ole Miss remains a big part of not only my life, but my family as well."

This is just the second year the award has been given at the University of Mississippi. The Young Alumni Merit Award is presented to one individual each year who has graduated within the last 15 years and who has made significant contributions to their career and their community.

"We are extremely proud of Brad and his exceptional accomplishments," said Dr. Kenneth W. Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University. "Knowing that he is being recognized by Ole Miss as an outstanding young alumnus underscores what we at Southeast already know. Brad is an extremely talented young man who has been a tremendous addition to our Board of Regents. We commend him on receiving this distinction."

Bedell was appointed to the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents in April 2001 by Missouri Gov. Bob Holden. Bedell is president of Health Facilities Management Corp. (HFMC) in Sikeston.

Bedell's father, Don C. Bedell, established Health Facilities Management Corp. in 1984. The company has 30 nursing facilities throughout Southeast Missouri, Arkansas and Arizona. In his role as president, Brad Bedell is responsible for providing management and organizational direction to all HFMC personnel as well as comprehensive involvement in general company operations for 40 corporations and 3,000 employees. A subsidiary, Health Facilities Rehab, provides physical, speech and occupational therapy rehabilitation services.

Bedell served as executive vice president of HFMC from September 1994 to January of this year. Prior to that, he was vice president of legal services at HFMC. He holds a bachelor's degree with an emphasis in management and a juris doctorate degree, both from the University of Mississippi. He served as vice magistrate of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity at the University of Mississippi and as a member of the Lamar Order with the University of Mississippi School of Law.

He has been a member of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation Board of Directors and, in 1998, established the Don C. Bedell Excellence Award through the Foundation to assist business majors at Southeast Missouri State University. Bedell established the scholarship to honor his father.

Bedell has served as a member of the Executive Committee and on the board of the YMCA of Southeast Missouri. He also has served as vice president and a member of both the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the Missouri Healthcare Association, and has been a board and committee member of the American Healthcare Association. He is an advisory board member to First Midwest Bank, is a charter member of Quail Unlimited and is a committee member of the Swampeast Missouri Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.
