FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HIGHER EDUCATION CENTERS PLACED ON FOUR-DAY WORK WEEK

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 12, 2002 -- In response to state budget cuts, offices at Southeast Missouri State University's higher education centers in Kennett, Malden and Sikeston, Mo., will be placed on a four-day work week beginning Aug. 1.

This schedule will remain in effect through the 2002-2003 academic year and will be re-evaluated in June 2003 based on state funding levels at that time.

Currently workshops and classes are offered at the centers on Saturdays when the offices are closed, and the procedures for opening the centers on off-days will be extended to Friday. Services such as advising, use of the open labs, and registration will be available Monday through Thursday with extended hours.

The centers will be open on Friday and Saturday only for specially scheduled events and classes. The four-day workweek is expected to reduce the need for additional staffing and lower utility costs.
