CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., June 14, 2002 – Southeast Missouri State University officials announced that Kim Groves, director of Alumni Services, will be leaving her post June 30. Groves’ departure is part of a reorganization of the University Advancement area and was precipitated by serious budget cuts imposed on the University by the State of Missouri. Groves has served in that role since August 2000.

“This was a very difficult decision,” said Alan Zacharias, vice president for University Advancement and executive director of the Southeast Missouri University Foundation, “but one that had to be made in light of the circumstances.”

“I love Southeast and have thoroughly enjoyed working with and for fellow alumni from throughout the United States,” commented Groves. “While I will miss serving in this way, I look forward to beginning a new chapter in my career.”

Zacharias said the restructuring calls for the Alumni Services functions to be consolidated and handled by existing staff members. He said the changes have been planned so as not to significantly diminish programs and services aimed at alumni.

Alumni responsibilities will be distributed among existing Advancement staff, but will be handled primarily, along with her current duties, by Jane Stacy, director of development and Doug McDermott, associate director of development. Stacy has extensive experience in handling alumni issues, having worked as director of alumni services for 25 years before being named development director in 1997.

“Kim is a very positive team player who has always strived to serve the alumni of Southeast Missouri State University,” Zacharias said. “We wish her and her family well in all future endeavors.”
