FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WINFRED AND EMILYE GARNER MEMORIAL HEALTH CARE SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWED THROUGH FOUNDATION

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 12, 2002 - Mrs. Emilye Garner of Dexter, Mo. has endowed the Winfred & Emilye Garner Memorial Health Care Scholarship through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

This fully endowed gift of $10,000 will be used to create scholarships for students from the Dexter area who plan to enter the health field.

Winfred Garner and his wife Emilye, a Canadian, met in the service. Mr. Garner, a native of Dexter, operated movie theatres for many years. He received great enjoyment watching his son, Dr. Neil Garner, help others as a doctor and told Emilye that he, too, wanted to help others in the medical care areas. After Mr. Garner’s death in 2000, Mrs. Garner established the scholarship fund to implement her late husband’s dream.

First preference for recipients of the Winfred & Emilye Garner Memorial Health Care Scholarship will be given to a student from Dexter in pre-medical studies; second preference will be given to a student from Dexter studying nursing, and third preference will be given to a student from Dexter in pre-dental studies. If the recipient continues to meet the criteria for the scholarship, he/she automatically will be eligible for a continuing award. A scholarship committee will determine the recipient.
