SOUTHEAST CELEBRATING GREEK WEEK APRIL 6-13

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 5, 2002 -- The Greek community at Southeast Missouri State University will celebrate Greek Week 2002 April 6-13.

The week of events is designed to recognize unity among all chapters and to celebrate the ideals of Greek Life, including academics, philanthropy and community service.

The official kickoff event is Greek Games, scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at Capaha Park beginning at 11 a.m. The entire campus community is invited to watch the students compete in a variety of novelty games and to enjoy a barbecue sponsored by Greeks Advocating Mature Management of Alcohol (GAMMA).

The schedule for Greek Week 2002 is as follows:
April 6: Greek Games, Capaha Park, 11 a.m.
April 7: Family Fun Fair, Arena Building, Arena Park, 8:30 a.m. (Greek students will volunteer at the event.)
Canned Food Drive around Cape Girardeau, begins at 1 p.m.
April 8: All Greek Softball Tournament, Sprigg Street (Volleyball in Student Recreation Center as rain alternative), 2:30 p.m.
April 9: Mystery Event, Academic Auditorium, 7 p.m.
April 11: Day of the Scholar. Students will be wearing ribbons denoting high academic achievement.
Academic Excellence Reception, Dempster Atrium, 5 p.m., announcement of Professor of the Year
April 12: Greek Sing, Academic Auditorium, 7 p.m., seating is extremely limited
April 13: Special Olympics, Cape Central, (students volunteer throughout day)
All Greek Chapter Meeting with keynote address by Patty Hendrickson, Academic Auditorium, 6 p.m., seating is limited. Chapters, advisors and individual students will be recognized for leadership contributions.
