ANNUAL STUDENT JURIED ASSESSMENT EXHIBIT ON DISPLAY IN UNIVERSITY MUSEUM

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 5, 2002 - The Southeast Missouri State University Museum is hosting the Department of Art's Annual Student Juried Assessment Exhibition through April 21 on campus.

The exhibition showcases works created by Southeast Missouri State University students in their classes during the past year. A guest juror has selected 30 to 40 works from over 300 painting, sculpture, drawing, fine craft, graphic design, print and illustration entries.

This year's juror, Petronella Bannier, is an adjunct professor of art at the University of Evansville, Ind. A sculptor who works primarily in clay, Bannier received a bachelor of fine arts degree and a master of fine arts degree from the Rietvelv Academy, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She also holds a master of fine arts degree in ceramics from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

In addition to selecting works for the exhibition, Bannier will write a report assessing the overall quality of creative work being done in the Department of Art studios.

This project is supported by a congressionally directed grant administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

An opening reception was held from 4 to 6 p.m. today, during which awards were presented. A guitar duo, composed of Department of Music students, also performed.

The Museum is located in Room 122, Memorial Hall on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on weekends.
