PANHELLENIC COUNCIL WINS FIVE AWARDS AT MID-AMERICAN GREEK CONFERENCE

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 15, 2002 – The Panhellenic Council at Southeast Missouri State University recently won five awards at the Mid-American Greek Conference in Chicago.

The Southeast Panhellenic Council received five of eight “Excellence” awards presented, including awards for academic achievement, council management, philanthropy and community service, public relations, and risk reduction and management. For each category, Panhellenic Council representatives provided documentation of programs it had presented at Southeast and information pertaining to each criterion.

A group of outstanding Greek Life professionals, including staff from national fraternity and sorority headquarters, university advisors, and staff from the National Panhellenic and National Interfraternity Conferences judged the awards.

The awards are presented in conjunction with the Mid-American Greek Council Conference held each year for Midwest colleges and universities. The conference features speakers who address a variety of areas pertaining to Greek Life, including wellness, alcohol and leadership. The students also have the opportunity to interact with coordinating officers from various universities' Interfraternity, Panhellenic, National Pan-Hellenic and Greek Councils at sessions held each day.

The Mid-American Greek Council Association also gives the opportunity for more than 20 universities to apply for the awards. The awards are then presented at the end of the conference and are displayed for other universities to view. The Southeast Panhellenic Council was one of nine colleges and universities with five to eight National Panhellenic Conference chapters in Division II to be awarded.
