UNIVERSITY RELATIONS RECEIVES TOP HONORS IN PROFESSIONAL COMPETITIONS

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., March 8, 2002 – The Office of University Relations at Southeast Missouri State University recently won several awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District Six Awards Competition, the Tri-State Advertising & Marketing Professionals (ADDY) Awards Competition and the Admissions Marketing Report Advertising Awards.

University Relations received 10 CASE Awards, which were presented at the CASE District 6 Awards Dinner in January in St. Louis. Gold awards were received in the category of publications produced on a budget for the Brown Bag poster, and in the category of student recruitment series for the Harrison College of Business Series. In the category of single student recruitment publication, an international brochure, a technology brochure, and the viewbook all won silver awards and the search piece, a polytechnic studies brochure and a study abroad brochure all won bronze awards. Bronze awards also were received in the category of student recruitment series for the recruitment series and in the category of publications program improvement for departmental brochures.

Southeast received two ADDY awards, which are given annually for excellence in advertising in Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky. The awards were presented at the annual Tri-State ADDY Award Dinner in January at the University Center. The competition is sponsored by the Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals. In the category of collateral material - poster single, the Brown Bag poster received an ADDY of Distinction and, in the category of business to consumer campaign – flat, the Harrison College of Business Series received a Citation of Excellence.

Fifteen awards in twelve categories were received from the 17th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards, a nationwide competition sponsored by the Admissions Marketing Report. Gold awards were received in the category of publication- internal for the “On Campus” magazine, and in the category of direct mail advertising, for study abroad brochures. In the category of total public relations campaign, the College of Business Series received a silver award, the cultural arts campaign received a bronze award and both the Polytechnic series and the recruitment series received merit awards. Merit awards also were received in the category of newspaper- single ad, for minority advertising; in the category of publication- external, for a “Freshman Experience” piece; in the category of newsletter, for “On Campus” publication; in the poster category, for the Brown Bag poster; in the brochure category, for a technology brochure; in the imprinted materials category, for a mouse pad featuring the new Otto & Della Seabaugh Polytechnic building; in the logo/letterhead category, for the Southeast athletics logo; in the catalogue category, for the undergraduate bulletin; and in the search piece category, for an international search piece.

“Southeast Missouri State University has a long history of excellence in publications design,” said Diane O. Sides, director of University Relations. “We are pleased to be able to continue to produce quality publications for the University and to be awarded such honors by our colleagues in the field.”

The Office of University Relations is headed by Sides. Contributing to these successful efforts were Juan Crites, director of Public Services/Publications; Michael Grace, photographer; Nancy Kelley, graphic designer; and Lori Davis, proofreader. Student workers Amy Keith and Cassie Peterein also supported the efforts.
