DEPARTMENT OF NURSING SPONSORING THIRD ANNUAL PEMISCOT COUNTY HEALTH FAIR MARCH 9

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 22, 2002 – The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Nursing's Office of Addictions Research is co-sponsoring the third annual Pemiscot County Health Fair, “A Healthy Stop to Addictions,” March 9, in Caruthersville, Mo.

Health promotion and disease prevention focusing on addictions is the theme for the health fair, which will be held on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Glenn E. Daulton Community Center. Free screenings will be provided for blood pressure, neuropathy, child health, stress, pulse oximeter and total cholesterol/glucose (do not eat after 10 p.m. if participating in the cholesterol/glucose screening). Addictions information will be provided on gambling, eating disorders, alcohol, drug and sexual addictions.

“The health fair will provide a community based clinical experience for Bachelor of Science in Nursing students and graduate students in the nurse educator, clinical nurse specialist and family nurse practitioner tracks,” said Tammy Johnson, project assistant for the Southeast Department of Nursing.

This event, which is being co-sponsored by the Greater Mount Carmel Christian Fellowship of Caruthersville, Mo., and Sigma Theta Tau – Lambda Theta Chapter, is free and open to the public. Hot dogs, popcorn and cold drinks will be served throughout the day, and door prizes will be given away at 1:30 p.m.
